Save the pub group gets behind pubs
Eric Illsley MP, Vice -Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Save the Pub Group, met fellow MPs, Peers, pub campaigners and industry figures in the Red Lion on Whitehall yesterday to celebrate the National Pub Week.
The event which was organised in conjunction with Justice for Licencees was designed to highlight the difficulties currently faced by the pub sector but also to draw attention to the many benefits pubs bring to communities.
Eric and parliamentary colleagues met Inez Ward of Justice for Licencees, the Association of Multiple Licensed Retailers, Fair Pint, the Morning Advertiser and the Publican in the famous pub which is a stone’s throw from No 10.
Eric Illsley MP commented:
“All too often we talk about the problems faced by the pub industry without acknowledging the great work that pubs do. This was a chance to discuss the positives, to focus on the benefits that pubs add to the community.
“I enjoyed seeing MPs and Lords from all parties in attendance and having the opportunity to speak to representatives of the pub industry. I was delighted to put aside partisanship, talk about how pubs enrich the country and enjoy a quiet drink!”
